Mid ruby with orange tinges. Subdued, intriguing savoury nose. Succulent, supple and with good depth. Quite a bit of tannin too, but the fruit more than holds up. (WS)

This has brambly red-fruit aromas and flavors on offer with a slightly tangy and chalky texture on the palate. Nice red-cherry drive. Balanced, too. Drink in the next five years.

The 2014 Brunello di Montalcino takes an extra minute or two to open in the glass. Although it starts off slowly, it does blossom nicely to reveal cassis, dried cherry, spice, balsam herb and rose petal. The wine offers an intact and generous bouquet that provides more intensity and depth than many of its peers. However, you recognize those vintage-specific traits in the mouth where the wine is streamlined, firm and fresh with moderate persistence. Some 7,880 bottles and 60 magnums were produced.

Quite rich nose with medium weight of fruit, and freshness on the finish. Transparent wine with some ethereal quality rather than just being 'light'. Pretty chewy on the end. (JR)
