Very dusty and a little reluctant to open up. Also quite compact and closed on the palate but with extraordinary balance and fine tannins. (WS)

The 2011 Il Pino di Biserno embodies the heat of the vintage with ripe fruit tones, blackberry preserves, cherry cola and loads of luscious dark spice. The 2010 vintage has more focus and balance, but this warmer rendition offers its own appeal. The wine is more suited to near-term consumption thanks to its soft tannins and fruit-forward personality. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 12% Petit Verdot and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon. Some 80% of the wine is aged in French barrique for 12 months.

The 2011 Il Pino di Biserno is rich, broad and ample on the palate, with plenty of vintage 2011 richness. Raspberry jam, wild flowers, mint and smoke are some of the many notes that flesh out on the finish. The 2011 impresses for its balance, but also has a remarkable level of freshness for the year.
