Score 87-89/100 · Drink 2020-2028, Jeb Dunnuck, Jun 2020

The 2019 Château Durand Laplagne Cuvée Terres Rouges will be a solid, thoroughly enjoyable red. Giving up plenty of ripe black cherries, chocolate, and leafy herbs as well as a touch of earth, it's medium-bodied, has a rounded, supple texture, light tannins, and a good finish. It's going to drink well for 7-8 years.

The 2019 Durand-Laplagne Les Terres Rouges is so distinctive. Firm tannins give the wine shape, structure and energy that build with time in the glass. Dark cherry, plum, gravel, spice and leather all flesh out in the glass. The 2019 is a bit eccentric, but it is also incredibly appealing; this is a cru to watch. It will be interesting to see if the 2019 gains a bit more flesh in élevage.
