Equal parts Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, the 2021 Lirac La Reine des Bois adds a bit of dried spices to the raspberry and blueberry fruit. Just 15% of the volume aged in second-use oak, the rest was in tank. Medium to full-bodied, with silky tannins and ample length, this is a huge success for the vintage.

35% Grenache Blanc, 25% Clairette, 15% Roussanne, 10% Marsanne, 10% Viognier, 5% Piquepoul. 10% matured in barriques, 90% in stainless-steel tanks.  Tasted blind. Almond notes on the nose with a creamy, nutty richness – vanilla and fennel. A tight palate with a herbal streak, pear skin and anise. Some good freshness here to the broad and textured finish. Apricot notes come through towards the end. (AC)
