Some development at the rim. Pretty volatile. Relatively mellifluous in that there is no shortage of ripe fruit and reasonable balance but a bit jagged as a drinking experience. Fades very fast on the finish. The Pascal Delbeck property. (JR)

Relatively pale and maroon notes. Opulent, exotic nose – a little smudgy. Could do with very slightly more focus and lift. A little bit foot-dragging. Hint of Earl Grey tea. (JR)

Typical of the style sought by winemaker Pascal Delbeck, Belair’s 2001 possesses tart, crisp acidity, a noticeable angularity/austerity, and notions of sweet and sour cherries and crushed stones. This narrowly constructed yet elegant St.-Emilion is more intellectual than hedonistic in style. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2014.

Moderately saturated medium red. Redcurrant and tobacco on the nose. Vinous and fresh but on the lean side; where's the beef? Not especially long on the back, but not dry either.
