The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a blowsy, slightly leathery nose that obfuscates the terroir expression. There’s not much in the way of freshness here. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins that are grippy and rather hard. It's a wine that lacks grace, and there is a caramel aspect on the finish that I must admit to disliking. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a vibrant, vivacious bouquet with cranberry and wild strawberry scents intermixed with cumin and clove scents. Quite complex and engaging. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins that frame the juicy, ripe redcurrant and cranberry fruit that merges with blackberry and white pepper notes towards its structured finish. Good grip on the finish, even if it does miss a little precision.
