Good dark red. Much more reticent on the nose than the Clos du Dessus des Marconnets. Then tactile if still tightly wound, with its cherry fruit complicated by saline earth tones and a hint of leather. Finishes savory and dry, with rather suave tannins and slowly building length. A more structured wine than the Clos du Dessus des Marconnets.

Cask sample. Organic. Darker and more savoury fruit character compared with the Dessus des Marconnets. More stemmy on the palate, and dry, almost a little chalky in texture. Deliciously fresh. On the lighter side but persistent. (JH)

(from a 1964 planting on very thin soil with an iron element; aging in 25% new oak): Bright dark red. Black cherry, licorice and spice aromas and flavors are lifted by a floral quality. Suave and velvety, offering a suggestion of chocolatey ripeness but also excellent energy and inner-mouth perfume. A step up in precision and aromatic persistence from the Clos du Dessus des Marconnets. This is too classy for Beaune wine!
