The 2012 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières has a wonderful, vibrant nose with grilled hazelnut and smoke – a straight-down-the-line Meursault. The palate is fresh with citrus lime, orange zest and a touch of peppermint, great length as it fans out beautifully on the finish. This is a consummate Genevrières.

(from a parcel toward the top of the cru, picked moderately ripe): Pale yellow. Tight aromas of lemon, lime and powdered stone. There's still three grams per liter of sugar remaining but it's more than balanced by 4.5 grams of acidity. A real high-wire act, offering almost painful intensity to its lemon, lime and mineral flavors buffered by strong dry extract. As with most of these 2012s, a half-degree or so of chaptalization has given the finish an attractive sweetness. This will almost certainly absorb some more of its sugar before it's bottled.
