The 2000 Barolo Enrico VI, from the Villero vineyard in Castiglione Falletto, a site which gives fruit of more concentration and structure, is the most powerful Barolo of the three, deeper in color and with more plums and tar in its nose, more solid and sustained in texture, but with the characteristic polished tannins of the house on the close. Medium red. Subdued aromas of red cherry liqueur and caramel oak. Richer and broader than the Monfalletto, but comes across as less sweet today and more backward. Slowly mounting finish shows substantial, slightly drying tannins. Very much in the style of a hot year.

(from the Villero vineyard in Castiglione Falletto) Very ripe strawberry, minerals and spicy oak on the nose; less floral than the Gorette. Very round and sweet, but less bright and fruity than the Gorette. Note of burnt caramel on the end. Has a sizable tannic structure. Enrico Cordero describes the estate's 2000s as rounder and fatter than the '99s. "With 1999, you're aware of the alcohol first," he told me.
