The 2017 Meursault-Blagny Sous Le Dos d’Ane has quite a dollop of oak on the nose, although it has decent definition; there’s just a touch of reduction to sort out. The palate is well balanced with tangy tangerine and clementine notes, well judged acidity and a dash of white pepper that enlivens the finish. Good persistence in the mouth. This just needs a couple of years to assimilate that wood. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Meursault 1er Cru Sous le Dos d'Âne (Récolte du Domaine) is showing very well, opening in the glass with a youthful bouquet of green pear, fresh peach, nutmeg, pastry cream and crushed chalk, followed by a medium to full-bodied, racy and incisive palate, with a pretty core of fruit, a bright spine of acidity and a long, precise finish. One of the finest renditions of this bottling that I've tasted, it's a tightly wound Meursault that will reward some bottle age. As is the case across the board, the closure is Diam 10.
