The 2022 Ried Hochrain Spitz Riesling Smaragd shows a clear, bright and fine nose with delicate spice and elegant density as well as finely spiced, concentrated apricots. It is juicy on the palate but quickly tightens and is slightly astringent and somewhat drying at the end. Tasted at Schloss Dürnstein, Wachau, in September 2023.

Spitz. A subsite of Axpoint at 226–267 m with deep and nutrient-rich subsoil. Wide and sweeping aromas of apricot and clementine, white blossom and herbal/citrus accents. Sudden switch to a deeper, warmer and more complex orange profile on the palate. Grippy texture, good concentration, and a long, saline finish. Still waiting for all the pieces to find their proper place. (PS)
