The 2018 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba is a very pretty entry-level offering. Macerated cherry, crushed flowers and sweet spice all grace this understated mid-weight Barolo. The 2018 is a bit ethereal, but its balance is impeccable, and this is 2018 after all. Drink it over the next handful of years.

The 2018 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba shows some mild ripeness with dried raspberry and prune that appear with just enough intensity to remind you of the uneven vintage (that caused more issues with the younger vines). Along with those sun-ripened aromas, this wine offers the power we associate with Serralunga d'Alba with distinctive aromas of blood orange, iron ore and dark spice.

Serralunga d'Alba. Youthful and just mid ruby. Firm and fragrant with hints of liquorice. Elegant palate that at the same time is firmly structured. This shouts Serralunga in the glass. Great sappy fruit impact and then rich fine tannins on the finish. Long and vivid. (WS)
