The 2005 Gratius is 100% Sangiovese from the oldest vines on the property. Here the oak completely overpowers the fruit, resulting in a monolithic, one-dimensional wine.

The 2005 Gratius is 100% Sangiovese from the oldest vines on the property. Here the oak completely overpowers the fruit, resulting in a monolithic, one-dimensional wine. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. Il Molino di Grace is one of the most perplexing wineries in Chianti Classico. For the life of me I can’t understand why these wines are so inconsistent from year to year. I am sure the estate could kick things up a notch or three. Importer: Empson, USA, Alexandria, VA; tel. The 2005 Gratius (Sangiovese) is a soft, supple red with well-articulated dark fruit woven into layers of spices and sweet French oak. The wine reveals excellent balance in the accessible, easy going style that is found in so many wines in this vintage.
