Score 92/100 · Drink 2019-2032, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2018

The 2012 Barbaresco Riserva Santo Stefano is an attractive wine, although it remains a touch stern and compact, without quite the inner sweetness or depth of the very best editions. The long, persistent finish compensates to some degree. The 2012 is a Riserva built more on length than body or volume. It should drink well for another decade, perhaps more.

Tasted blind. Neive. Maturing mid ruby with orange tinges. Compact and quite sweet and a little scorched on the nose. In contrast, the palate is supple with good acidity, while the slightly candied fruit betrays the heat. Slightly tough tannins on the finish for the moment. (WS)
