The delicious Meursault Charmes from Alvina Pernot boasts ripe apple aromas with hints of acacia flower, butter, and hazelnut. The texture is rich, but there is enough acidity to keep the wine balanced through the pleasantly lingering finish. The grapes come from an exchange with a grower who has a parcel in Charmes Dessous. The reductive handling and limited use of new oak help make this a sleek, stylish wine, even in a hot year like 2022.

The 2022 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru has more tension and mineralité than the La Piéce Sous Bois, though it is still relatively backward with glimpses of yellow fruit and pressed flowers. The palate is very well-balanced, with a slightly waxy texture on the entry. There’s fine extract here, a little pithy, again, quite "controlled" on the finish as if it is begging to be cellared away for 4-5 years.
Lime green. I cannot quite find the nose yet, certainly not the full opulence of Charmes. A bit more heavyweight on the palate, with some oak behind, good acidity but not quite the zest and lift which I associate with the finest Alvina wines.
