This vineyard sits just below the forest, with only 30cm top-soil over the hard rock below. The Pavelot plot (a mere 0.35 hectares) shows a totally different side to Savigny. It’s a little reductive when we tasted it, but behind this is a sweet, creamy note (from 20% new oak) and lush purple fruit. As it opens up, the wine reveals its bright delicacy, with rose petals and fresh strawberry. The crunchy, pure fruit persists on the palate, mouth-watering and mineral, driving a long, saline finish

The 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune Aux Guettes 1er Cru has a lovely bouquet that blossoms in the glass: an enticing mélange of red and black fruit, light loamy aromas, and a hint of morels. The palate is medium-bodied with a lively, forward entry. There is good acidity and a sense of energy in this Savigny, though it needs a little more depth and grip on the finish, but that may well develop in the barrel during the second winter
