50% new oak, 50% whole bunch. Mid smudgy ruby. Distinctive nose that smells older than 2018 but still has the underlying stemmy fresh herbal character – nutty. The stem character is extreme on the palate – I find it too dominant – though there is some sweetness of fruit to counter it. Quite odd. It is pretty hard work and tough for now at least. Maybe I am missing this wine? (JH)

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Cuvée Fontaine Jacquinots was parsed away from the village cru in the previous vintage. It contains 50% whole bunch this year. It has a slightly reduced, very earthy bouquet at the moment, with woodland and autumn leaf aromas filtering through the red fruit. The savory, medium-bodied palate features brown spices liberally sprinkled over the red fruit. I would like more Pinot character toward the finish (which was showing a little CO2 when I tasted it).
