Score 91/100 · Drink 2023-2029, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2023

The 2019 Barbaresco Gallina is the most easygoing of the three 2019s I tasted for this report, and also the most forward. Worn-in leather, tobacco, spice, menthol, dried herbs and dried cherry fruit are all suggestive of a wine with early tertiary characteristics. Even so, the 2019 has enough depth to drink well for at least a handful of years.

There is a graceful feel to the 2019 Barbaresco Gallina, offering notes of wild raspberry, ripe apricot, and roses, followed by refined tannins, energy, great balance, and a long finish. Layered and finessed with orange peel, grenadine, and dusty earth, it is drinking beautifully already and will continue to improve over the coming 15 to 20 years.
