The 2019 Monbrison has a very oaky nose that obscures the terroir or fruit. Too much winemaking present. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannins, fine acidity, plush and rounded with black plum and boysenberry fruit, just a bit smudged on the finish. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

Tasted blind. Purplish crimson. Round, gentle nose, then tea leaves on the palate and lots of freshness and a lightly grainy finish. Not quite the concentration of fruit and tannin of some, but there’s certainly nothing wrong with it. (JR)
The 2019 Monbrison has quite a perfumed, floral bouquet, although I would have liked that to be partnered with a little more fruit. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh, with fine definition, blackberry and raspberry fruit, a dash of black pepper and a tobacco-tinged, persistent finish. I admire the clarity and energy in this Margaux. Recommended.
The 2019 Monbrison is classy, polished and elegant, just as it was in barrel. Crushed flowers, sweet berries, spice, mint and sweet pipe tobacco give this understated, expressive Margaux an air of finesse that is unmistakable.
