The 2017 Daugay is plump and juicy, just as it was en primeur. Sweet tobacco, cedar, mint, dried flowers and licorice add pretty shades of aromatic nuance. I would prefer to drink this forward, supple Saint-Émilion on the young side.

Mostly Merlot (there’s 5% each of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon), the 2017 Chateau Daugay is a pretty, medium-bodied, elegant Saint-Emilion that has attractive, ripe cherry fruit and spicy, earthy, and subtle floral aromas and flavors. It’s not a blockbuster yet has good balance and is already a delicious drink. It should keep for 8-10 years.
Attractive violets and blueberries on offer here with a cedary edge and fresh red flowers, too. The palate has an elegant and vibrant feel with crunchy tannins, carrying bright red-fruit flavors. Drink or hold.
The 2017 Daugay, owned by Jean-Bernard Grenié and Hélène de Boüard-Grenié of Château Angélus, has a perfumed bouquet of incense and iris, although it dovetails into a more stony/earthy aroma spectrum with aeration. The palate is smooth on the entry with plush black fruit, just the right amount of fine acidity to lend tension towards the black pepper infused finish. This is a fine Saint-Émilion that should age well over the next decade.
