The 2021 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru has a feisty bouquet that needs to show more restraint. Potpourri-infused red fruit, allspice and pine emerge with time and it finally begins to cohere. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, well balanced yet unapologetically understated. Showing plenty of finesse on the focused but tensile finish, this is a lovely Pommard that you might well misconstrue as coming from a more auspicious and costlier name. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens is especially elegant and melting this year, bursting with aromas of cherries, plums and berries mingled with rose petals and baking spices. Medium to full-bodied, supple and suave, it's a seamless, delicately extracted wine with a pure, saline finish.
