AP number 14 23.   Less herbal than the Herrenberg and a little more spice. A little more power, too. Savoury citrus and more obvious aroma of spontaneous fermentation. The acidity sticks out a bit on the finish. Needs more time. (JH)

Beautiful intersection of creamy concentration and crunchy fruit. Rose hip, cedar and wild-cherry vibe. The same chiselled, stony tension found in the Riesling can be felt in the Pinot as well. Elegant oak influence offset with the herbal lift of rosemary and juniper. Complex, linear and lithe. (PS)

The 2022 Abtsberg GG opens with a clear, bright, herbaceous and spicy nose. Juicy, elegant and mouthfilling without being heavy, this is a filigree top wine from the Ruwer with delicate acidity, piquant slate spice and a lingering salty finish. A classic from a famous steep vineyard. Tasted in Wiesbaden at the Vorpremiere VDP.Grosses Gewächs in August 2023.

AP number 14 23. Greenish note. Masses of acidity and potential with layers of flavour. Though it’s actually approachable already. I’d say it’s worth paying the premium over the Herrenberg. (JR)
