The 2021 Barbaresco Montestefano is a towering beauty. Today, the 2021 is much more closed than it was last year, so I would not dream of touching a bottle anytime soon. Potent yet finessed tannins enshroud a core of dark-toned fruit. There's real density and presence here. Hints of mocha, spice, new leather and incense sustain the long, beautifully resonant finish. This is such a gorgeous and complete wine. I can't wait to taste it again in a few years.

Barbaresco. Lustrous mid ruby. Perfumed and rich on the nose without being heavy. Juicy, concentrated red fruit. Plenty of stuffing yet elegant and with bags of chewy tannins really complementing the fruit. (WS)
The 2021 Barbaresco Montestefano is one of the very best young wines I have tasted here. Dark, rich and intense, but also light on its feet, the 2021 dazzles from the very first taste. Dark red/blue fruit, lavender, licorice, gravel, dried herbs and menthol open with a bit of coaxing. The Montestefano possesses striking mid-palate depth, compelling inner perfume and mind-blowing balance. I loved it.
