Score 90-94/100 · Drink 1998-2006, Robert Parker, Dec 1998

The spectacular 1997 Pinot Noir One Acre Vineyard (200 cases) from Anderson Valley could easily pass for a top-notch premier cru from the Cote de Nuits. Made from modest yields, it reveals a deep ruby color with purple nuances. The aromatics include black cherries, cassis, spice, herb, and flower blossoms. Medium to full-bodied, with terrific fruit purity, and a lush, open-knit texture, this complex Pinot Noir possesses sensational potential. The wine will be approachable when released, yet should age nicely for 7-8 years. Ted Lemon told me that he did a saignee of all his 1997 Pinots because of high yields, and that all of these wines were scheduled to be bottled with neither fining nor filtration. As I said before, virtually the entire production of Littorai is sold via a mailing list ... readers take note. Tel. (707) 963-4762; Fax (707) 963-7332

Medium red. Briary, herbal, spicy nose shows a complex animal/vegetal component. Rather Morey-like flavors of blackberry, earth, mocha and meat; shows more obvious sweetness and body, though not more complexity, than the above pinots. The longest on the palate today, but slightly disjointed. This was done in 75% new oak, vs. 50% for the other Littorai pinots.
