The 2021 Barbaresco Roncaglie is a terrific new release from Poderi Colla and a worthy follow-up to the sublime 2020. It is perhaps not quite as overtly expressive as its older sibling, yet I see gorgeous depth and layers of dynamic energy that are waiting to unfold. Macerated red cherry, blood orange, spice, menthol and dried flowers all race across the palate. There's a level of purity here that is just beguiling.

Barbaresco. Just mid ruby. Impressive depth and purity of fruit with stony, minerally notes. A real unity on the palate, too, with succulent, elegant raspberry fruit and deep, long, coating tannins. The fruit needs a little time to properly come out, but it will be worth the wait. Elegant throughout. (WS)
