Tasting notes
This is dark and brooding on the nose, with a mix of blackberry jam, tea leaf, pine needle and subtle cedar. It’s a touch astringent on the palate, but the ample raspy tannins provide a sturdy structure that drives the wine forward into a long finish. A very textural wine, this will benefit time in bottle to allow the fruit to unfurl. Aged in 40% new oak, with 13% alcohol. Blend: 45% Cabernet Franc, 35% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon

Sporting a medium ruby hue, the 2023 Château Canon-La-Gaffelière is a blend of 45% Cabernet Franc, 35% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon brought up in 40% new French oak. Closed and just hinting at its potential today, it has ripe aromatics of darker cherry fruit as well as some leafy herbs, graphite, and mineral nuances, with more floral nuances emerging with air. It's medium to full-bodied on the palate and beautifully balanced, has good concentration, and a great finish. It shows the Château's more elegantly styled focus today, is perfectly balanced, and is just a gorgeous wine. Hide bottles for 4-5 years, and it will keep for 3 decades. Drink 2030-2055.
The 2023 Canon La Gaffelière is a total stunner. Blood orange, exotic spice and red-toned fruit scream out of the glass. Heady and explosive to the core, the 2023 dazzles from the very first taste. Clean, mineral notes extend the effortless, gracious finish. This is such a gorgeous, contemporary wine from the Neipperg family. Don't miss it!
