Tasting notes
A 50/50 blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot aged 18 months in 70% new oak, the 2023 Clos Saint Julien sports a deep purple hue as well as a rockingly good nose of ripe red and black fruits, roasted herbs, chocolate, and graphite, with some textbook crushed stone-like minerality. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a great mid-palate, a fleshy, rich mouthfeel, moderate, integrated acidity, and a great finish. Drink this outstanding Saint-Emilion over the coming two decades. Drink 2026-2046.

The 2023 Clos Saint-Julien is fabulous. Bright, aromatic and silky on the palate, Clos Saint-Julien is all class. Crushed flowers, mint, lavender and blue/purplish fruit race across the palate in a refined Saint-Émilion. The 2023 is exceptionally beautiful. That's all there is to it.
The 2023 Clos Saint-Julien has well-defined blackberry, raspberry and light eucalyptus scents tucked underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, ferrous red berry fruit, just a little drier on the finish than I would have liked.
The 2023 Clos Saint Julien is brilliant and juicy, offering a medium to full-bodied, ripe, incredibly pure profile that brings more richness and depth than most. Wild strawberries, blue fruits, graphite, and crushed stone-like minerality all define the aromatics, and it's concentrated, with nicely integrated background oak and fine-grained tannins. Count me impressed.
