A gorgeous Fronsac, the 2023 Château De La Riviere is based on 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Malbec and aged 12 months in French oak (35% new). Black cherries, cassis, graphite, and spring flowers all emerge from this beauty, and it's medium-bodied, with a pure, graceful mouthfeel, fine, polished tannins, and a great finish. It will keep for 10-15 years if you're so inclined. Drink 2026-2038.

Fresh blackberries, warm chalk, plums and a touch of minerals and cocoa powder. Good depth on the medium- to full-bodied palate. Juicy, long and energetic, showing precision, polish and a sense of place, with judicious ripeness, balanced fruit and fine, powdery tannins. Likely the best rendition we’ve tasted. Keep an eye on this estate. Drink or hold.
Always a solid Fronsac, the 2023 Château De La Rivière has a medium-bodied, almost Pomerol-like fleshy, textured profile as well as attractive aromatics of red and black berry fruits, violets, flowers, and chocolate. I like its overall balance, it has sweet tannins, and it displays loads of upfront charm and character.
Black cherries, licorice, and chocolate come together in this round, forward, fruity, lush, soft-textured wine. The finish is sweet, polished, and packed, with dark red berries.
