The 2021 Petit Bocq has held on to its attractive nose with well-defined blackberry, bilberry and crushed stone scents, becoming more floral as it opens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins that frame the tobacco-infused black fruit, dovetailing into a slightly earthy and structured finish. There is very fine cohesion here, and it lingers nicely in the mouth. This is one of the few that I would afford two or three years in bottle.

The 2021 Petit Bocq has an attractive bouquet of well-defined, Cabernet-driven black fruit, plus touches of graphite and menthol. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, good density and gentle grip, leading to a clean, focused finish. This is a promising and seemingly well-crafted Saint-Estèphe.

Cask sample. Sleek nose. The palate is firm with sandy tannins and moderate weight of fruit. Not hugely expressive at the moment, quite firm style – a bit backwards. (AC)

Enjoyable, sappy, cheerful, but a little austere, with bright acidities.
