Score 91/100 · Drink 2024-2035, Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, Dec 2023

Firm, still tight and delightfully expressive, the 2017 Merlot Reserve displays elegant plum skin with dusty purple flowers on the nose. Full-bodied with 15% alcohol, the palate reveals a firm mineral tension that will need some time to come around. It ends with a tannic finish. It will be amazing with food now or can be enjoyed starting next year.

The 2017 Merlot Reserve is matured in French oak for 16 months. It has quite a floral bouquet with black fruit and touches of crushed violet. The palate is medium-bodied with dark chocolate-tinged red fruit, austere in style, and just a bit monotone towards the savory finish. Not particularly exciting, to be frank.

The 2017 Merlot Reserve has a backward nose that needs a little more time in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied with good depth, plenty of body and quite muscular in style. Nice sappiness on the finish.
