The 2017 Mercurey Les Montots is also a success this year, offering up aromas of strawberries, plum pit, licorice and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety palate that's attractively textural, succulent and charming. This derives from a warm site that sees all-day sunshine and a longer cuvaison.

‘I advise to wait’, implores Pierre de Benoist. True, it seems closed down, so there should be more to come, although it isn't concentrated enough for the very long term. Finishes with lovely tart cherry fruit on the length. (RH)
