The 2018 Barolo is a soft, fruity wine to drink now and over the next decade or so, while the flavors remain vibrant. Kirsch, mint, orange peel, spice and white pepper open nicely in the glass. Burzi's 2018 is charming and very easy to like. In 2018, Alberto Burzi opted to forgo his Capalot vineyard designate and bottled just one Barolo, a decision that paid off handsomely. Burzi remains one of the young growers to watch in Piedmont.

La Morra. Burzi decided against bottling his top cru, Capalot, once rented out to Roberto Voerzio until the rental contract expired a couple of years ago, and 'declassified' all the fruit into a single Barolo. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Iron, cherry and raw meat with just a suggestion of dried fruit. Supple and elegant with dark, sweet tannins and a saline note on the finish. Still a little tight and with wonderful ripe acidity. A finely stitched-together whole. (WS)
