The 2022 Pinot Noir Boot Hill is from the eponymous clay and loam site in Kent. This matured for 10 months in French oak, of which 40% was new. The nose revels in an exquisite lift that combines wild raspberry and crunchy red cherry aromas. A touch of Ceylon tea and blood orange peel completes the picture. Lightness and a fine, filigree tannin structure are highlighted by bright, vivid freshness. Surprisingly, this has absorbed the new oak and remains tender, slender, fragrant and poised. The 2022 is most elegant.

Full bottle 1,422 g. Fermented in stainless steel, aged in oak barrels. The decidedly present presence of oak is miraculously not suppressing the wild-red-berry fruit, which is skinny and tart but somehow ripe. Popping with juice and full of character. Dark chocolate and coffee bean in the mid palate and attractively leafy and peppery towards the end. I would love this with venison pie – like a cranberry jus. (TC)
