The 2020 Pinot Noir BDR was held back in an abundance of caution with this vintage to continue to monitor it for any evidence of smoke effect. While it might not have quite the same level of complexity as the 2021, I think they made the right call. In the glass, it pours a ripe red color and is pretty, with spicy notes of wild strawberries, woodsy earth, delicate incense, cardamon, and light minty notes lifting from the glass. It’s medium-bodied, with fine tannins, and has a clean, iron-rich mineral finish. Drink 2024-2036. Founded in 2007, the Boars' View estate was planted by Ulises Valdez with the help of Thomas Rivers Brown, in the same geological bowl as Marcassin. The nine acres of the property planted to vines are mostly Pinot Noir, with a small amount of Chardonnay. The wine style is a significant departure from the supple and elegant wines of Rivers Marie in that they are modeled after the aesthetic of Schrader’s style of Cabernet. These are brawny wines with a more obvious stamp of oak influence and opulence and are reflective of their more mountainous, coastal terrain.
