Weissenkirchen. Small, rugged, very steep site at the base of the Achleiten, separated by a gorge and just 25 m from the Danube. Certified Sustainable Austria. This is lemony-sharp and peachy-plump, with lots of baby fat. That fat is juicy and succulent, powered by terrific acidity that keeps juicing up the fruit. Super-sunny and youthful, a bright, cheerful wine, a breath of fresh, brisk air with the scent of flowers and fruit. Drink now for sheet tastiness; give it time to develop more complexity. (TQT)

Full bottle 1,259 g. Nutty, complex nose with lots to lose yourself in. Layers of intrigue. Excellent acidity and finely chiselled texture. Hints of lime and lots of mineral aspects before a very long finish. It's already enjoyable but will surely develop into something even more complex. Rich on the mid palate and finishes dry. Explosively engaging. (JR)

The 2023 Riesling Ried Klaus Smaragd is dominated by amphibolite. The nose is creamy, slightly smoky, and here the tables are turned, the nose is creamier. The palate is tighter, with lovely citric concentration. This is bright, fresh, vivid and so gorgeous. The 2023 is ripe but with beautiful tension and freshness. (Dry)
