Score 90/100 · Drink 2022-2037, Jeb Dunnuck, Apr 2022

The second wine of this notable château, the 2019 Prelude A Grand-Puy Ducasse sports a deep purple/plum hue as well as a lively bouquet of red and black fruits, wet river rock, smoked tobacco, and chocolaty oak. This carries to a rich, medium to full-bodied Pauillac with good mid-palate density, notable ripeness, plenty of tannins, and a great finish. It doesn't have the elegance of the Grand Vin, but it's one satisfying mouthful of a Pauillac to drink over the coming 15 years or so.

Alcohol a little intrusive, which gives some astringency, although not bitterness, to the tannins. As it opens up, there are attractive floral and white pepper notes. Savoury Cabernet Sauvignon fruits.
