The 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru les Caillerets was reduced to one barrel, and this (like others) was on the lees. It has a fine orange blossom, slightly earthy/chalky bouquet that opens nicely in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with fine acidity, notes of quince and dried apricot, maybe just missing a little energy toward the finish but still quite long in the mouth. It would pale against recent vintages, but perhaps it is a miracle that any wine was produced at all from this vineyard.

No racking – the wine has been in the same barrel throughout its life. Rather subtle and less tense than the others. Creamy and round. Lemon posset. Very long. (JR)
