Bright medium red. Black cherry, smoke, menthol and a leathery nuance on the nose. Spicy black cherry and licorice flavors show a juicy quality but only moderate depth. Bright acidity underscores the impression of cool medicinal reserve. A bit slight and dry on the finish. Will evolve quickly.

The 2013 Beaune 1er Cru les Sizies, which was hit by hail, though not as bad 2014, was entirely destemmed due to the denuded quantity of fruit. It has a light red berry and cranberry bouquet while the palate is easy-drinking with light tannin, no sign of any rot and a decent tensile finish. Drink this over the next three to five years.

No whole bunch, 20% new oak. Pale crimson. Racked beginning of October. The only wine in tank already. Not hailed too badly. Light and fresh. Very lively and pretty but just a little severe at the moment. (JR)
