Score 91/100 · Drink 2022-2045, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jan 2022

Lively and charming, the 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges Au Bas de Combe is showing well in bottle, offering up aromas of sweet berries, spices and vanilla pod, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety and generous palate, its lavish core of fruit framed by melting tannins. This will offer a broad drinking window.

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Au Bas de Combe Vieilles Vignes offers a mixture of red and blueberry fruit on the nose, one of the most floral that Tardy oversaw in this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, rounded on the finish and just missing the delineation of the ‘20 by comparison.

Matured in around 40% new oak, the 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Au Bas de Combe Vieilles Vignes has a very controlled, focused bouquet of raspberry and bilberry fruit, beautifully defined and very terroir-expressive. The palate is well balanced and stylistically equidistant between Nuits Saint-Georges and Vosne-Romanée, betraying its geographical location. The 85-year-old vines impart great concentration but also immense quality, more Premier Cru than Village Cru. Superb.
