Score 96/100 · Drink 2023-2049, Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2023

The 2014 Coleraine leads with the beautiful Coleraine nose of red fruits and harmony between umami/savory and supple/sweet and that mid-weight tannin and fruit interplay that always feels so agile and fresh. In the mouth, the wine is all of these things, with a brooding underbelly of muscle and ripeness. It has grunt, this 2014. Yet it holds true to the Coleraine style; there's a clarity and visibility of purpose within this wine. It sits gently in the mouth, and it holds with persistence and flow through the finish. It's marvelous and still a baby. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under cork.

Finally, a 2014 Coleraine from Te Mata in New Zealand, still very young but sporting fresh, pure red fruit on the nose and primal, sappy redcurrant and strawberry on the palate that obviously needs another two or three years.

Dark, ruby-tinged red. Perfumed scents of cassis, crushed raspberry, bay leaf, tobacco leaf and curry powder. Boasts excellent intensity and thrust but still youthfully dumb and clenched in the mid-palate. But this wine boasts terrific depth to its flavors of dark berries, flowers and spices. With a firm spine of ripe tannins, this wine has the structure to support a long and graceful evolution in bottle.
