Score 92/100 · Drink 2024-2036, Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate, Jun 2024

The 2021 Entity Shiraz comprises 13 different vineyard components, 75% Barossa Valley and 25% Eden Valley. The first vintage of this wine was 2004, and it was "the second wine I made, after the Plexus in 2003," says winemaker John Duval. On the nose, this is chocolaty and supple; the palate follows suit beautifully. It's a sapid, intense, polished wine, with layers of purple fruits and exotic spice. Lovely wine. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

This 2021 Shiraz Entity is beautifully composed and sleek, with an engaging energy and brightness of fruit. There is outstanding detail in the form of white paper, cloves, cocoa and woodsmoke aromas with excellent oak integration. Superb flavor precision follows with layers of blackberry and chocolate and a gentle violet lift underpinned by a core of fine yet firm tannins driving through to a long, soaring finish. The 2021 is an exceptional and brilliant value.

A big and rich wine but it shows freshness and energy underneath the juicy and rather thick fruit with plush tannins. Some chewiness, too. Needs two or three years to soften. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
