Tasting notes
Score 88/100 · Drink 2001-2010, Robert Parker, Apr 2001

The 1998 St.-Domingue is made in an exotic, over-the-top style with port-like, ripe notes of prunes, blackberry jam, coffee, and toasty new oak. The flamboyant bouquet characteristics are also apparent in this medium to full-bodied, oaky, low acid, almost flabby wine. Although it will be controversial, it is undeniably delicious. Anticipated maturity: now-2010

Full ruby-red. Superripe aroma of crystallized berries. Lush, fat and suave, with good weight in the mouth. But shows a distinct aspect of surmaturite and could use a bit more clarity of flavor. Finishes with very round tannins.
