The 1976 Musigny Grand Cru predates the Roumier family purchase of the parcel that they had sharecropped since Georges Roumier himself took the métayage in the 1920s, but it is from the same plot as succeeding vintages. The 1976 feels a little muffled on the nose, offering notes of brown sugar and leather. The palate is rustic and certainly lacks the pedigree that Christophe Roumier brought to the wine in the 1980s, the hot summer bestowing rather baked fruit and some dryness now toward the finish. An interesting wine more than an exceptional one. Tasted in November 2018 at the Roumier Musigny dinner at Épure in Hong Kong.

The 1976 Roumier Musigny was soft, delicate and fully resolved. Though quite pretty, I probably would have enjoyed it more a few years ago.
