Score 90/100 · Drink 2006-2016, Daniel Thomases, Wine Advocate, Aug 2004

The 2001 Korem is a blend of Bovale (Spain’s Bobal), Carignano, (France’s Carignan and Spain’s Carignena), and Cannonau and is a powerful, full-throttle effort. Very dark in color with a ripe plum and blackberry nose, its dense, concentrated, and firm palate, sustained and deepened by an important tannic presence, should give another dozen years of drinking pleasure, though I would wait until 2006 before beginning to sample the wine – it is potent stuff. The largest private estate making quality wine in Sardinia, Argiolas received its original impetus from the counsels of Giacomo Tachis, at the time the chief oenologist of Antinori and creator of both Tignanello and Sassicaia. The line is now larger and more complete but quality, if anything, has further improved, and these are essential wines for those looking to discover what the wines and viticulture of Sardinia are all about.
