Mostly Grenache with 10% each of Syrah and Mourvèdre, brought up in 70% new barrels, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cotes Capelan reveals a dense purple hue as well as powerful notes of ripe blackberries, blueberries, spicy wood, and peppy garrigue. This rich, full-bodied, incredibly concentrated beauty has a great mid-palate, ripe, building tannins, and just loads of fruit and opulence. It's going to take 7-8 years for this to shed some baby fat and gain some elegance, but it's balanced and beautifully done.

80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre. Aged in new barriques (70%) and concrete (30%). Cask sample. Tasted blind. Lots of fruit here on the nose, violets and garrigue. Quite a dry feel at the moment, sweet fruit also and a decent amount of acidity. Feels a little short on the finish. (AC)
