The 2021 Meursault Les Genevrières 1er Cru has a much more backward nose that demands coaxing. It's a little waxy, missing the mineralité and complexity of Bouzereau's own Genevrières. This does open up considerably with aeration, with yellow fruit and pressed flowers coming forth. The palate is medium-bodied, quite linear in style but there is ample freshness. It doesn't have the flair of the first two wines in this flight although I appreciate the orange rind/sour lemon tang on the finish. Just a bit more winemaking evident here hence my score. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Meursault Les Genevrières 1er Cru is reduced to a measly 450 bottles this year, a barrel and a half, due to this vineyard being one of the earliest ripening and then the frost impact. It has a beguiling, very pure and slightly candied bouquet with orange zest, mandarin and touches of crushed stone. The wood will need some time to assimilate. The palate is well-balanced, elegant and delicate, lemon zest and touches of lime on the effervescent finish. Wonderful, but so little!

Pure and vibrant, the 2021 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières opens in the glass with aromas of pear, citrus zest, toasted nuts and discreet reduction. Medium to full-bodied, it's satiny and enveloping, with racy acids and a long, penetrating finish.
