The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques offers up notes of dark berries and plums, mingled with orange zest, peonies and smoke. Medium to full-bodied, lively and floral, it's pretty and fine-boned, concluding with a saline finish.

Cask sample. Mid ruby. A better rendition than the 2022. Very solid red-cherry fruit, with some spicy and savoury notes. Ripe, with fine, sleek tannins and a moderately long, tapered finish. (MH)

The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has an exquisitely defined bouquet with perfumed black cherry, raspberry, crushed stone and a light marine influence. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a similar fruit profile to the Gevrey Village and a poised yet persistent, black-pepper-tinged finish. Give this two or three years in bottle.
