This wine shows less aromatic clarity and a few different themes going on that kind of collide instead of finding a common groove, at least initially. The Barale Fratelli 2017 Barolo Castellero takes a few extra moments to straighten itself out in the glass, but do give it time. Dark fruit, cassis, spice, tar and campfire ash color this robust bouquet. The important fruit from Castellero in the village of Barolo gives silky structure and power to this expression.

The 2017 Barolo Castellero is soft, fruity and easygoing, all of which make it a good choice for drinking now and over the next decade. Succulent red cherry, red plum, spice, cedar and leather are nicely pushed forward in this tasty, accessible Barolo from the Barale family.
