A quintessential Saint-Estèphe with its darker plum, black cherry, and currant fruits as well as notes of damp earth, violets, and lead pencil shavings, the 2020 Château Haut-Beauséjour is medium-bodied and has a seamless, elegant mouthfeel, ripe, supple tannins, and a great finish. It's a beautiful, surprisingly accessible, pure, finesse-driven wine that will evolve for 10-15 years in cold cellars. It's well worth seeking out and, I suspect, will represent a terrific value.

The 2020 Haut-Beauséjour is an intriguing wine. Cedar, dried flowers and pipe tobacco give this mid-weight Saint-Estèphe terrific aromatic complexity. Medium in body, with good energy and tons of character, the 2020 is a winner. I very much like the brightness here. There is a bit of firmness in the tannin, but that just adds energy.

The 2020 Haut-Beauséjour has a relatively high-toned bouquet of subtle inky scents filtering through blackberry and raspberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh, with grainy tannins, fine depth and good grip on the finish, yet still conveys some elegance. This is a well-crafted Saint-Estèphe that should age with style.
