Tasted blind. Rather pongy on the nose. Lots of ginger beer. Varnish. (JR)

Tasted single blind against its peers. The Bastor-Lamontagne surpasses my expectations from barrel. It has an attractive bouquet with scents of honeycomb, white peach and shaved almond shrouded in vanillary new oak. The palate is well-balanced with good acidity, although it sags a little in the middle and does not build on the promise of the nose. It has a crisp citrus edge on the light, elegant finish, but it would need more botrytis to merit a higher appraisal. Tasted January 2012.

More delicate on the nose, pears and grapefruit. Then grapefruit pith zest, almost sourness on the palate but not in an unpleasant way. Much lighter than Ch de Fargues tasted immediately before this but quite an elegant, fresh finish. (JH)
